Miadhu News reports the first reading of the Maldivian Red Crescent bill will be held at the People’s Majlis session today.
On behalf of the MRC Interim Planning Group and Ministry of Health, the bill was submitted to the parliament by the Ministry of Legal Reform, Information and Arts on 27th October 2008. As mentioned by the Commissioner of Legal Reform Mr. Mohamed Adil in Haveeru Online, the bill will give the legal right to officially form the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) and carry out its humanitarian activities throughout the nation, partnering to the global Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
The second reading of the MRC bill will be held at the People’s Majlis session on 17th of November.
Since the post-tsunami recovery operations began in 2005, numerous volunteers from the private and government sector assisted by IFRC have dedicated themselves and persevered for over three years to form a national Red Crescent society in the Maldives. Today marks their monumental commitment to serve for the betterment of humanitarian vulnerabilities in the Maldives and globally.
