Raa Atoll Dhuvaafaru is literally mean “moving running reef” “, fishermen see reef moving frequently”, actually the island has got a very dynamic beaches. There is historical evidence to show that 2 to 3 hundred years ago people lived in Dhuvaafaru, but the native of these islands left the island because of erosion. These very people who left Dhuvaafaru due to erosion, to Kandholhudhoo are returning to their ancestral island. The big question is how long they can live in Dhuvaafaru,? Dhuvaafaru is one of lowest island in the Maldives, less than 1 meter, if IPCC prediction is accurate, this island will be in first islands to be submerged by 2100. The Red Cross Federation (IFRC) spend over 35.6 million Swiss francs million, Why these factors are not taken, when former president Gayoom has been so concerned of the climate change, why his his government did not serious take climate change and future sea level rise factor in choosing Dhuvaafaru.
