World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2008 celebrations
Every year on May 8th Red Cross and Red Crescent societies worldwide take the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of the society’s founder Henry Dunant. Giving a chance to reflect on the foundation of the neutral, impartial humanitarian work of over 186 national societies
So once again throughout the nation, partner national societies of the Movement working with the local community on a variety of development projects invites citizens to a celebration of its history, to promote understanding of the Fundamental Principles and to share information about the work of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement here in the Maldives and around the world.
The day is to celebrate in a fun and interactive way, and as there were successful fun runs in the past two years, the community is invited for a run once again, as well as the activities at artificial beach (main stage area). Much like the huge participation of school children in the past two years, the opportunity to involve the younger generation again will be the focus of the event.
Activities include walk in information displays of the IFRC and partner national societies, information booth for the form Maldivian Red Crescent Society with First-Aid demonstrations from the Maldives First Aid Practitioners Network. Brief videos on the activities of the Movement will be displayed at the video shack.
As entertainment, there will be boduberu by local artists and performances by school students.
Celebrations will finish for the evening prayer around 6:15 pm. Water and refreshments will be provided for the participants.
